Playmakers RepertoryAdapted for the stage by David Greig, When the Bulbul Stopped Singing was penned by Palestinian human rights lawyer and writer Raja Shehadeh during the Israeli army occupation of his hometown. The play is inspired by the terror and humiliation endured by his family while Ramallah was under occupation. UNC CAMPUSTwo years on, it’s clear that Hurricane Katrina was not only an epochal social catastrophe and a political Waterloo, but also a catalyzing cultural touchstone. Tonight through Friday in Swain Hall, Louisiana State University Ph.D. candidate Danielle Vignes will perform Hang It Out to Dry: Katrina’s Spun Tales, a collection of first-person narratives she gleaned from interviews conducted in her native St. Bernard Parish.
