If you don’t love parks, then you should check to see if you have a pulse.
Raleigh voters can decide whether to approve a $91.7 million bond to upgrade and create new parks, greenways and cultural facilities.
If approved by voters, the bond would add a 1.72-cent increase in the city’s property tax rate, effective July 1, 2015. What does that mean for you? If you own a $150,000 home, you’d pay about $25 more a year. If you own a $300,000 a home would add another $51 to your tax bill. Come on, you’ve probably found $25 in an old winter coat.
There are 23 projects that would be phased in over the next 5–7 years, beginning in the fall of 2015. These include $12.5 million for Chavis Memorial Park, $3 million to bring Laurel Hills playground up to Americans With Disabilities Act standards. Several city cemeteries would get an upgrade, and several greenways would be expanded, including the Crabtree Creek Connection to Umstead ($4.4 million).
An additional $2 million would help build a new park, Devereux Meadows at the corner of Peace Street and Capital Boulevard.
Take a forest bath and vote yes on Raleigh’s park and recreational facilities bond.
