Almost a half-million North Carolinians had cast ballots in the May 6 primary before the doors of polling places opened Tuesday morning. Tonight, voters can watch the results come in online.

Results will be posted this evening on the State Board of Elections Web site at this link.

    As of 6 a.m. on Election Day, the North Carolina Board of Elections reported that

    • 24,900 absentee ballots had been collected by mail.
    • 471,006 absentee one-stop ballots had been cast at early voting sites.

    There are 5.8 million registered voters in the state.

    Results of absentee and one-stop ballots will be available shortly after the polls close at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday night, the Board of Election said.

    All results posted online are unofficial; official returns will be available Tuesday, May 13.
