“You pass out that food, you will go to jail.” a Raleigh police officer to Hugh Hollowell, who was part of a group feeding the homeless on a sidewalk adjacent to Moore Square Park
Raleigh didn’t do North Carolina any favors in cementing the state’s reputation as a punisher of the poor. On Saturday, Aug. 24, Raleigh police threatened to arrest people who were distributing food to the homeless near Moore Square Parkas they have done for six years. Wake County/Raleigh has a 10-year plan to end homelessness. Maybe the plan is to starve them out.
