Hal Crowther’s shrill sermon goes beyond ridiculous by claiming the National Rifle Association considers “gas chambers and H-bombs” as “recreational” (“One nation under guns,” cover story, April 16). Of course criminals who use guns should be severely punished, and firearms do not belong in a deranged maniac’s hands.
Unlike Crowther, most Americans consider the Bill of Rights “relevant.” What other rights would he eliminate that don’t match his 21st century ideologies? Using Holocaust survivor Liviu Librescu’s shooting [at Virginia Tech] exemplifies the ultimate irony in Crowther’s lack of historical insight. It’s a pity he doesn’t mention the guns used at the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising during the Holocaust.
If predatory thugs attack Crowther, I suggest he defend himself with a rolled-up Independent.
