In your endorsements [for Orange County Commissioners], you missed Neloa Barbee Jones, one of the strongest advocates for the most pressing environmental issue facing our community today (“Indy endorsements 2008,” cover story, April 23). The farmlands of the African-American citizens of Eubanks and Rogers roads have been subjected to the negative effects of all of our garbage for decades. The stench, the rodents, the buzzards and the impact on groundwater have been ignored by far too many elected officials who campaigned on their support for the environment. This issue has been out of sight and out of mind time and again by those who claim to be environmentalists.
As a lifelong educator, Jones is committed to working to assure the best possible education for all children in Orange County. She will also work hard to promote responsible economic development. Learn more about Jones at www.neloaforcommissioner.org.
