Thank you for covering the efforts of local universities to serve more healthy, local food (“How FLO can you go?” by Victoria Bouloubasis, Feb. 27). In the last six years, I have been privileged to work with hundreds of North Carolina farmers, including Patrick Robinette of Harris Acres Farm, as they transition from low-paying commodity agriculture to more sustainable and profitable crops.
Efforts like FLO Food that seek to source sustainably produced food from North Carolina are critical to the success of the state’s farmers. Farms are still the backbone of North Carolina’s rural economy, and entrepreneurial leaders like the Robinettes keep our communities thriving. Congratulations to the local universities and students for their vision in supporting these farms.
