I am highly offended by the portrayal of two young African-American males on the cover of the Independent. You had a chance to be a voice of unity and reason, of dialogue and sensitivity, and you fell into the same trap as the mainstream press–hype and stereotyping. I am disappointed that you have fallen far short of the standard you usually set.

Please apologize to your readers and your community and then find a way to be a part of the solution rather than a part of the problem.
