The state health department’s Tobacco Prevention and Control Branch receives complaints from citizens about bars and restaurants that may be violating the smoking ban each week and transfers them to local health
departments for follow up. The complaints aren’t valid until a member of a
county health department visits the bar and observes the alleged violation.

Statewide, there have been 520 complaints of businesses violating the smoking ban through the first three weeks of January.
