A few years ago, events in my life read like a country song. I was broken hearted and struggling. Then my dog died. I told myself I didn’t need another. Yet less than a week later, a co worker involved with German Shepard rescue, shared a photo of Jackie. She had just been rescued after many months in a West Virginia shelter. I thought it couldn’t hurt to just see the dog. She turned out to be as charming as she is beautiful. Of course, I was smitten. In an effort not to change her shelter name much, I came up with a fitting acronym. JaC is short for joy and compassion. I am so grateful for her timing and presence. She continues to be my own personal rescue/therapy dog and best friend. April Walton, Durham
