Your source for sustainable and healthy home improvement products

After many years of balancing work within the building industry and a strong commitment to the environment, as well as raising a daughter with chemical sensitivities, opening Common Ground Green Building Center was the logical next step for Paul Toma and Dawn Hintgen.

Located in Durhams Central Park District, just a couple of blocks from the old ballpark, Common Ground will provide the Triangle with a unique retail showroom offering healthy and sustainable home improvement products, as well as eco-friendly kitchen and bath design services. Some of the products Common Ground offers include zero VOC (volatile organic compounds), non-toxic paints, Forest Stewardship Council-certified and other eco-friendly flooring, formaldehyde-free cabinets, countertops made with recycled material and home water and air filtration.

By creating Common Ground, Paul and Dawn are incorporating their passion for the environment and health issues into what they do on a daily basis. They feel good knowing that they are making decisions that affect everyones surroundings in a positive way, and hope to help others do the same. Paul, formerly the owner of Common Ground Construction, has experience in all phases of carpentry, as well as contractor sales. Dawn, a National Kitchen and Bath Association-trained design professional, is an experienced kitchen and bath designer. Both are well versed in green product options. They hope to be part of a larger conversation that is happening in the area about the importance of healthy homes and green materials. They will be a resource and networking center where people can find information on the products offered and get connected with builders in the area that are building green.

If you are concerned with the sustainability of the floor you need to replace, have chemical sensitivities, or just dont want VOCs off-gassing into your babys newly painted room, Common Ground has the products to help you.

Come visit our showroom to see a wide range of environmentally preferable and healthy air options for all phases of your home improvement project.
