For the past several years, Raleigh’s Lincoln Theatre has been hosting regular nights dedicated to a variety of “professional” cover bands: Cosmic Charlie (um, Grateful Dead, man), Zoso (“Does anybody remember laughter?”), and Who’s Bad (covering Michael Jackson’s oeuvre from his days as a black man). The numerous shows featuring national and local cover bands speaks more of the money people will spend on nostalgia than a desire to see live music. But the Lincoln intends to raise the bar and create one big historically diverse lineup. On Saturday, Aug. 20, their Monsters of Mock concert will feature eight groups displaying their skilled mimicry of Pink Floyd, Metallica, The Rolling Stones and more. Doors open at 3 p.m., with two stages–one outside, one in the club itself. Tickets are $8 in advance (plus a service charge) and $10 at the door.
