Soon museum exhibits will be all the Triangle has left of its once-thriving tobacco farming community. The heavy sweet smell has faded from the brick factories that loom over Durham’s downtown, and Brightleaf is more strongly associated with shopping than a special kind of plant. On Saturday, July 29, a Tobacco Harvest Festival at Duke Homestead will revive some of the old traditions of harvesting, stringing and curing for the curious and nostalgic alike. A mock tobacco auction and musical entertainment are also planned for the event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 477-5498 for more information.
