- Record Flooding Damages Eno River State Park
- Urban Ministries Weathers Funding Losses
- Hopscotch Announces Lineup
- Ways to Help Residents Affected by Chantal
- Did You See That Double Rainbow?

Good morning, readers.
Around midnight on Sunday, the Eno River reached about 25.63 feet, exceeding what the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration categorizes as “major flooding” conditions. The previous record was 23.6 feet during Hurricane Fran in 1996.
Water flow in the Eno peaked Monday morning at about 500 times more than normal.
That’s the kind of force that ripped through Eno River State Park and devastated nearby neighborhoods in Northern Durham following Tropical Storm Chantal. The road to recovery will likely take months as folks from the Eno River Association (ERA) along with state and local governments continue to assess the total damage and collaborate on a rehabilitation plan.
Ryan Fehrman, ERA executive director, says these types of weather events are no longer an anomaly, and communities should be prepared to deal with them more frequently.
“We can have a storm like Chantal that we didn’t see as a significant threat and still have historic flooding,” Fehrman says. “It’s a real wake up call. We need to be deliberate about making sure our public policy considers these possibilities as we move forward, because we’re not going to see fewer, smaller storms. We’re going to see more and bigger storms.”
