The total Durham Public Schools allocation in the county budget is just shy of the school board’s $27.5 million request.

The comments from staff who serve deaf students came after department members called in sick last Thursday to protest insufficient pay. 

DPS will spend $2 million in federal funds for HVAC and other building repairs, but more is needed to tackle school building maintenance problems.
