Duke’s passing game continues to pile up big numbers against the Blue Devils’ defense in its preseason scrimmages.

Thaddeus Lewis, Sean Renfree and Sean Schroeder combined to complete 25 of 39 passes for 240 yards and a touchdown, highlighting Duke’s 65-snap scrimmage on “Meet the Blue Devils” day at Wallace Wade Stadium.

“There were some nice plays made offensively and there were some big hits and some nice plays made defensively,” Duke coach David Cutcliffe said. “It is going to be a great tape for us to study. … I was pleased with Thad (Lewis). He’s been hurt but looked somewhat full speed today and I really thought he did a nice job making plays.”

Renfree completed 11 of 18 for 93 yards, Lewis seven of 12 for 86 and Schroeder was seven of nine for 61 including a 10-yard scoring strike to Preston Scott.

Freshman Hillside High alum Desmond Scott (pictured) had six catches for 39 yards – along with four carries for 25 – while rookie Conner Vernon hauled in three for 42.

Cameron Jones rushed for 49 yards on three carries while Jay Hollingsworth added 28 on four totes including a one-yard touchdown run.

Safety Matt Daniels caused and recovered one fumble, while Colin Jones had an interception. Will Snyderwine kicked a 27-yard field goal and successfully converted his lone PAT attempt.

Duke opens at home Sept. 5 against defending NCAA Division I (FCS) national champion Richmond.
