USA Baseball’s National Team played its second intrasquad game of the season Thursday night at the National Training Complex in Cary.
Middle Tennessee’s Bryce Brentz (pictured) was the hero for the Blues, with three hits including a solo homer, a double and a steal in a 3-1 win over the Reds.
The two teams will square off again tonight at 6, and tickets are for sale.
Here’s the lowdown from the press release:
Brentz homered to left center in the top of the second off Mississippi’s Drew Pomeranz.
The Blues added two more in the fifth. Florida State’s Mike McGee reached on an error by third baseman Rob Segedin of Tulane. Rice’s Rick Hague followed with an RBI double down the left-field line, and then Blake Forsythe of Tennessee hit an RBI single to right to make it 3-0.
Miami’s Yasmani Grandal gave the Reds their only run in the bottom of the frame, when he homered to right off Logan Verrett of Baylor to bring the score to 3-1
TCU’s Kyle Winkler picked up the victory while Nick Pepitone of Tulane got the save.
