CAMERON INDOOR STADIUM/DURHAM—This afternoon’s brutal 88-50 whooping that the Duke Blue Devils laid on the Delaware Blue Hens came at the end of Duke’s undefeated eight-game stretch, which Coach Krzyzewski referred to as an “energy cycle” during today’s post-game press conference.
He also described the second-ranked Duke team’s fatigue level as “dead” following their Nov. 28 win over Ohio St. So, with only a few days to recuperate, Duke showed no signs of a letdown.
Seth Curry, whose ankle injury from the Ohio St. game kept him out of today’s lineup, watched from the bench as Duke tore into a lesser Delaware team that relied heavily on its all-conference junior guard Devon Saddler. It was a bad plan, exacerbated by Saddler’s heavy trash-talking and loud, pink socks.
With five players putting up double figures and Ryan Kelly’s 8-13 shooting performance for 18 pts., Curry’s absence wasn’t too much of a hindrance for Duke, but perhaps the most interesting story of the game was that freshman Alex Murphy and senior reserve Todd Zafirovski both recorded their first points as Blue Devils. It took a while for Murphy to have his breakout game, but Club Cameron has become quite the demanding crowd lately and the Crazies finally got what they’ve been yelling about—“MURPH!”
