The second week of the season for the Triangle’s ACC women’s basketball teams was a lot similar to the first – with all the marks going into the left column.

But there were a couple of close calls, as No. 11 UNC (3-0) had to fight in the final minute to hold off No. 21 Oklahoma State 79-77 on Sunday after N.C. State (4-0) was able to hold off pesky High Point 66-62 on Friday night. No. 8 Duke (3-0) has been pretty much cruising so far.

This week should get a lot tougher for everybody. The Wolfpack visits Tulane (3-0) tonight and could see No. 24 Purdue on Saturday in the Bahamas. UNC will take on No. 5 Stanford on Friday night in Hawaii. And Duke is at No. 7 Texas A&M on Sunday.

The Blue Devils’ week
Duke may have lost five big-time players from last season’s team, but so far Elizabeth Williams’ young supporting cast is doing just fine.

Williams averaged 17 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks in comfortable wins at Old Dominion and over Marquette. Senior guard Kalia Johnson had her first career triple-double (18 points, 13 rebounds, 11 assists) at ODU.

Meanwhile redshirt freshman guard Becca Greenwell had 22 points and 10 rebounds against Marquette and freshman Azura Stevens added 18 and 10, each recording her second triple-double in three college games.

The Tar Heels’ week
UNC doesn’t seem to be missing transfer Diamond DeShields at all.

Stephanie Mavunga was named ACC player of the week after back-to-back double-doubles including 23 points and 16 rebounds at Oregon.

Allisha Gray had 22 points and five steals including the game-clincher against Oklahoma State. She and Xylina McDaniel have scored in double figures in every game this season.

The Wolfpack’s week
State is also recovering from the graduation loss of five significant players, but right now it’s “so far, so good.”

Sophomore guard Miah Spencer has taken a chunk of the scoring load, pouring in 19 in a big 70-63 win at Charlotte on Tuesday night. She also had 14 against High Point.

State is also getting 15.3 points a game from sophomore Arkansas transfer Dominique Wilson and 12.5 points and six rebounds from JC transfer Carlee Schuhmacher.
