Ten N.C. Central players dot the roster of the preseason FCS all-independent team selected by Phil Steele’s 2009 College Football Preview Magazine.
Other schools that were competing for spots on the team included NCCU opponents Savannah State and Old Dominion as well as Bryant University.
The Eagles placed five players on the offensive side of the ball and five on defense.
NCCU junior lineman Teryl White (pictured) was selected to the defensive unit along with fellow junior lineman junior Sam Battle, junior linebacker Donald Laster, junior free safety Jeffery Henderson and redshirt sophomore defensive back David Ingram.
The offensive players include senior wideout Will Scott, junior tight end Earthan Ward, senior lineman Gabriel Manns and sophomore lineman James Frye.
Junior Deshawn Spears is listed as a return specialist.
Steele’s analysis sees Mose Rison’s club, which went 4-7 last season, as one of 16 FCS teams that were below .500 last year and should finish above .500 – that despite a pair of extremely tough road assignments at Duke and Appalachian State.
The Eagles open their season on Sept. 5 at Hampton.
