DURHAM BULLS ATHLETIC PARK The Durham Bulls will be looking for a reset this weekend, in a series between two teams headed in the wrong direction.

Tonight’s contest opens a four-game series with the Toledo Mud Hens, arguably the other most famous of current Triple-A franchises ever since Jamie Farr’s Cpl. Max Klinger made the Mud Hens famous through the long-ago hit CBS series M*A*S*H.

The Bulls come in having lost four games in a row, while Toledo’s current losing streak is six.

Shane Dyer (1-1, 5.40) will take on Toledo’s Jacob Turner (0-1, 4.30) .

And this one is ugly, as Toledo jumps on Dyer from the early going, pouring on 18 hits in an 11-1 victory.

The Mud Hens get on the board with two out in the third, as Jeff Frazier launches a 1-0 pitch high over the Blue Monster wall in left.

And then they explode for five runs on six hits runs in the fourth, the biggest blow Ben Guez’ one-out, three-run homer to left.

The Bulls finally get on the board in the seventh. With one out Matt Mangini singles to right followed by Reid Brignac’s single to center, and then with two out Cole Figueroa’s single to right breaks the shutout.

But the Mud Hens tack on four more in the eighth, with the key hit Ryan Strieby’s three-run homer, and another in the ninth to complete the rout.

Frazier finishes with the homer and a pair of doubles, while Guez homers and doubles for four RBI and Strieby homers and singles for three RBI. Everyone in the Toledo lineup hits safely.

Turner goes 6 2/3 innings and gives up a run on eight hits, striking out two against two walks.

Dyer lasts just 3 2/3, allowing six runs on 10 hits with a strikeouts and two walks.

Figueroa leads the Bulls with a double and single and the RBI, while Mangini doubles and singles.

Bulls manager Charlie Montoyo: “It’s tough to face games like that. Our backup catcher has pitched twice in five games. There’s no excuse. We’re just getting hit. We’ve got a lot of guys with high ERAs who aren’t making adjustments. But the beauty of this game is that it’s one game at a time.”

Figueroa: “I felt pretty good, just getting to get out there. After the first at-bat where I lined out I just relaxed up there and it came to me. Turner gave us the same stuff we’ve been seeing. He’s been working ahead of guys, working both sides of the plate. We got down early, so he was pretty much throwing it wherever he wanted it because he wasn’t worrying about giving up a home run or anything.”

What does it all mean?
That the Bulls are going to need one great effort to get this turned around.
