About 80,000 fans saw the Triangle’s home college football openers Saturday on a hot afternoon that turned into a warm night.
With UNC playing at 12:30 p.m. and Duke going at 7, at least a big chunk of the Triangle’s media was able to catch both contests.
In the early game, the Larry Fedora era opened with ease for the Tar Heels, as they blasted Elon 62-0 in the first meeting between the nearby schools.
And at night, the Blue Devils topped Florida International with a shockingly easy 46-20 rout that ended a seven-game winning streak.
