TV/ESPNU — Not sure what UNC had in mind after a 40-point outburst against The Citadel but 65 total offensive yards in the first half against UConn leaves the Heels searching for big plays.
Each team’s quarterback struggled against the pass rush and threw an interception, but Zach Frazer led the Huskies on a scoring drive and set up the game’s only score as the half expired.
Key Play of the half: Sadly, Dave Teggart’s 47-yard field goal is the highlight of the game so far and could be enough to win this game if the Heels don’t start effectively running the ball.
Key Player(s) of the half: Cornerback Charles Brown was a nightmare for the Huskies. He picked off a tipped pass, recovered a fumble and almost return a dropped lateral on UConn’s first series of the game before it was ruled a forward pass. The Carolina offense couldn’t convert on the excellent field position, but Brown’s defense kept the Huskies from running away with this one.
What to watch in the second half: UNC’s rushing attack led by Shaun Draughn, who totaled 15 yards on 10 carries, was terrible to say the least. Butch Davis would be wise to give another back a chance. Ryan Houston’s punishing running style is ideal for a slugfest like this and could take some pressure off T.J. Yates, who has been sacked five times in the first half and tossed an interception.
