“Our expectations are to start T.J.,” Butch Davis said. “Both of them (T.J. and Cameron) have done good these last two days and I expect him to play well Saturday.”
Yates started against NC State Nov. 22 only to suffer the Heels’ worst loss of the season.
Davis said that Yates’ starting experience gives him the edge. Cameron Sexton, who began the season as the third-string quarterback, started in six out of the seven games played after Yates went down with a broken ankle.
Mike Paulus started the first game against Miami when Yates was injured, but Sexton played most of the game.
The Heels enter the contest against Duke desperate for a win after dropping their last two games to Maryland and NC State. UNC needed only to win their last three games to win the Coastal Division.
