One of the standout films at last year’s Full Frame festival was Occupation: Dreamland, co-directed by Garrett Scott and Ian Olds. The film achieved an impressive intimacy with the ordinary–yet quite diverse and thoughtful–young men charged with executing America’s military objectives. Upon its theatrical release last fall, Occupation: Dreamland garnered rave reviews and on March 4, Scott and Olds were awarded a $25,000 Truer Than Fiction prize at the Independent Spirit Awards. Sadly, Scott’s filmmaking career was already over. Two days before the ceremony, he died suddenly from an undiagnosed heart ailment. He was 37 years old. —David Fellerath
