Triangle Community Works, which sponsors the helpline, will be holding its next helpline training the weekend of July 8-9. Training is 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday. Drag Bingo

Gay Bingo has been wildly successful in large urban areas like New York, Seattle and Philadelphia. Drag Bingo debuted in the Triangle in May 2002. In less than three months the event outgrew the space in Raleigh. In January 2004, Drag Bingo moved to the Armory in downtown Durham, a space able to seat over 500 people. The next Drag Bingo is Friday, June 24 at 8 p.m., and the theme is Stepford Wives.
Crape Myrtle Festival, Inc.

Crape Myrtle Festival originated in the summer of 1981 as a small backyard gathering in Wilmington. The party quickly grew in size and moved to Chapel Hill, becoming the gay A-List party in the area. But with the emerging AIDS health crisis, CMF soon began concentrating on raising funds for HIV/AIDS service agencies. CMF evolved into a yearly event, and has raised over $1 million to benefit more than 30 different service agencies throughout the state.
This year, the Crape Myrtle Festival will celebrate its 25th anniversary on Saturday, July 30 with a Grand Gala at Exploris in downtown Raleigh. That same weekend, the Crape Myrtle Festival Tennis Classic Tournament (www.triangletennisclub.com) will be held, as will the GRABIT Bowling Tournament (www.grabitnc.org). Tickets are on sale now on the CMF Web site and soon at White Rabbit Books in Raleigh and Cameron’s in Chapel Hill. Volunteers are always welcome.
