It’s hurricane season, and though North Carolina’s had it comparatively easy on that front for the past few years, weather tends to be in charge of outdoor events—like the drizzly Hopscotch, last week’s wet Capital City Bikefest and this weekend’s Wide Open Bluegrass festival, which is headed inside thanks to Hurricane Joaquin.
Instead of Red Hat Amphitheater, the all-day, ticketed concerts scheduled for Friday and Saturday night will now be in the nearby convention center. The free performances designed for Fayetteville Street and its corollaries have not yet officially been moved indoors, but an announcement from PineCone says they’re working with city and IBMA officials to set up a foul weather plan. They’ll make a final call Thursday morning at 10 a.m. For what it’s worth, we’ve heard from a few sources close to IBMA that those shows will indeed move inside, so … get ready for a cluster, folks.
Friday night’s big shindig has been sold out for a couple of weeks now, but tickets are still available for Saturday’s performance—which features the Sam Bush Band, Earls of Leicester, The Infamous Stringdusters and more—via Etix.
