Happy New Year! How are those resolutions going so far? Here’s another one to try on, courtesy of Christy Jean Smith: own your sadness.

For the better part of a decade, Smith made gorgeous, gentle acoustic songs as The Tender Fruit. But now, Smith has dropped The Tender Fruit name to go by Christy Jean instead, and her newest song, “Own Your Sadness,” takes her in an electronic direction.

Produced by Bombadil drummer James Phillips (who also plays synth and drums on the track), “Own Your Sadness” is a slow, pillowy number. It’s an encouraging reminder not to let your hard times keep you down for good.

You can listen to “Own Your Sadness” below. Here’s to hoping 2018 is way better than its predecessor.
