Last week, The Pinhook announced that NARAL Pro-Choice NC’s annual Rock for Roe benefit would return to the venue for the third consecutive year. While the past two benefits have featured special solo sets from the Mountain Goats, this year’s headliner is Hiss Golden Messenger’s Mike Taylor, billed as MC Taylor and Friends. The 2013 benefit featured Taylor playing with Mount Moriah as Blooz Travelerzz, a one-off act that covered classic tunes by the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Little Feat and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Past years have included Darnielle auctioning off requests and rarities, too. While Taylor might not have quite the same volume of tunes as Darnielle, it’s safe to arrive expecting a few fun surprises.

As we’ve seen in light of the hard-right shift of North Carolina politics over the past few years, pro-choice organizations like NARAL (which stands for National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws) need all the help they can get. Advance tickets to the show are $15 and are available here. Loamlands, the outfit of Pinhook owner Kym Register, will share the stage with Taylor.
