Three mighty local talents have come together on a wonderful new track, “Skin and Bone,” released yesterday. It’s a collaboration that’s felt like a long time coming, featuring Durham’s Shirlette Ammons, Tamisha Waden, and Phil Cook. If you need a mid-week boost, “Skin and Bone” will get you there.

The song features Ammons coolly rapping over a sunny, soulful groove, with Waden and Cook coming in to sing the chorus. It’s an uplifting and encouraging number that feels like a balm.

You can stream the song below, and it’s also available as a name-your-price download. Proceeds from sales of the song benefit Blackspace, a youth-focused hub for Afrofuturist thought and creative output—so don’t be stingy.

The three will perform the song live Saturday night at the Art of Cool Festival. You can read our preview coverage of the fest here.
