For seven years, Steven Feinberg and Keith Ward have been hosting spring and fall music festivals at Raleigh’s Mosaic. The idea is simple but sprawling—to highlight local talent and to promote dance nightlife and DJ culture. This year, Feinberg and Ward decided to make an essential change in format, allowing individual crews the chance to throw their own night. Squads like Jamla, Beatmaker’s Ball and Oak City Hustle have built several days and nights of quality local lineups—plus national headliners like Young Guru, Cosmo Baker, DeeJay Theory and Keith Evan.

Tonight, the spring edition launches the final weekend of the 11-day event with Jubilee, from Brooklyn’s Mixpak. Though some DJs still feel limited by genres, Jubilee manages to bring many styles together and get the crowd moving to the same beat. Maybe it’s her experience growing up in south Florida that influences this nondiscriminatory style, where tracks are laced with her early passions of drum & bass, hip-hop, soca and riddim. Her fearless approach to production has earned her spots on major independent dance labels like Trouble & Bass and BoysNoize Records. And as a DJ, she has rocked parties around the world, including regular Output appearances. Later this year, she is set to play Electric Daisy Carnival and Mad Decent’s boat party.

Jubilee is never shy about her girl power, either. She’s often vocal about the role of women in music and spent all of International Women’s Day flooding her Instagram with pics of her female peers. The scene can be cutthroat, but Jubilee’s egoless spirit is evident when she hits the decks. Her bright smile mixes with a serious determination to get the party started.
