Wrinkle Neck Mules
Southland Ballroom
Saturday, Feb. 21
Celebrating 15 years as a band, and with their sixth full-length release in hand, the Wrinkle Neck Mules returned to the Triangle with a recent stop at Southland Ballroom.
I Never Thought It Would Go This Far is an appropriate title for the band’s latest album. The group tours minimally, but every few years they return to Raleigh via promoter Marianne Taylor; their rabid fan-base always makes a strong showing, with beer bottles in hand and ready to sing-along to nearly every word.
Even with six releases under their belt, each rivaling some of the very best in the alt-country scene, the group remains part-time at best. Outside of a brief flash in front of a national audience after their song “Central Daylight Time” was picked up by Geico for a commercial, the group remain largely under the radar. Still, the Mules continue to plow forward, churning out one strange, catchy alt-country tune after another.
Check out some cuts from their Triangle return below.
