After a jump into a full-time music career, the past year has been loaded for Chapel Hill’s Mipso. This fall has been especially stacked, with an album release that found the young quartet’s new record, Old Time Reverie, topping Billboard‘s bluegrass chart and the band itself pursuing a hefty nationwide touring schedule to support it.

But Mipso has an interesting new item to add to the résumé before year’s end: Earlier this week, Macy’s announced the musical guests for this year’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Mipso will perform “Bad Penny” atop the float for Kentucky Fried Chicken. Other performers in the parade include Mariah Carey, former American Idol acts Jordin Sparks and Daughtry, Panic! at the Disco and Train.

Per the Macy’s Parade website, the KFC float will have a Kentucky-to-NYC-road-trip theme. Mipso kind of plays bluegrass, which is kind of from Kentucky, so sure, it’s kind of close enough, right? We’ll save you some clicks through the clunky site to get to the float’s description:

It’s the ultimate road trip when Colonel Sanders takes his 17-foot long Cadillac (note the COOPE-1 license plate) on a musical journey from the Bluegrass State to the Big Apple in his first Macy’s Parade appearance. From the neon lights of a Kentucky café sign to the bright lights of New York City, this float depicts that journey with details that include the actual road signs a traveler would encounter along the way.

You can watch the parade live on NBC Thursday, November 26, at 9 a.m.
