Yesterday, Hiss Golden Messenger announced a new album, Terms of Surrender, out September 20 on Merge Records. Hiss Golden’s M.C. Taylor tends to pen thoughtful, bluesy ballads about what it means to be a good citizen (slash neighbor, slash person), and the first track on the album, “I Need a Teacher,” released this week, keeps stride with that spirit. The video was filmed at this year’s statewide North Carolina Association of Educators’ Day of Action demonstration. On the fall headlining tour, a dollar from each ticket will go to the Durham Public Schools Foundation.
Produced by Taylor and Brad Cook, Terms of Surrender‘s ten tracks feature appearances by Jenny Lewis and The National’s Aaron Dessner, among others.
