If you’re interested in seeing the way creativity incubates, you may want to take advantage of two upcoming opportunities to see diamonds in the rough. N.C. State University and UNC-Chapel Hill will be showcasing student films and all interested cinephiles are invited to attend.
Thursday, April 22, Lambda Pi Eta (a communications honors society) will sponsor a screening of NCSU student shorts from 8:30-10 p.m., in Caldwell Lounge. Program organizer Grace Whitehouse will screen her film Voodoo Teddy, a comedy about the startling consequences faced by one young man who forgets his girlfriend’s birthday. Here’s a hint: Buying that vintage teddy bear in a pawn shop was a big mistake.
David Krudenier will screen his Loves of the Puppets, a drama based on a Richard Wilbur poem that evokes the intensity of new love as a young woman makes a decision about an unplanned pregnancy. Jenn Dorn will show five short films and Nikki Poe, Brian Tavener and Ryan Chaffee will screen two music videos featuring Taylor Roberts Music.
At UNC, Triangle film maven and Ms. Films organizer Niku Arbabi is planning a student film screening on Friday, April 30 at 8 p.m. in 116 Murphey Hall. The films will represent the best student work of 2003 and 2004 and may include 16mm narrative, animation, and documentary films.
