“Odd name, good causes”–that’s how the T-shirts for Tilty Farm Hoedown 2003 could read. This gathering, taking place this Saturday, July 12 from 1 to 11 p.m. out Saxapahaw way, promises 10 hours of top-shelf music created by an impressive list of acts, with the proceeds benefiting the Piedmont Wildlife Center (www.piedmontwildlifecenter.org/) and the Gaden Shartse Monks of South India (www.gadenshartse.org/). Among the 11 performers on the bill are such local heroes as the Wurlitzer-heavy Cartridge Family; roots-rock father figure Chip Robinson; eclectic, coffeehouse-friendly folk rockers the Milagro Saints; the Terry Anderson-led Olympic Ass-Kicking Team; a batter-fried version of Rockpile; and the hardest working band in the Triangle, Patty Hurst Shifter. Out-of-towners include Nashville-based Ed Pettersen (who kicks things off at 1:15), Richmond, Va.’s power-popping Heath Haynes & the Crying Shames, and accomplished-vet headliners the Silos. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 the day of the event; children under 12 are free. A pig pickin’ is included, just bring a dish to pass and your own beverages.
