It’s time to ditch our cars. They’re high maintenance, demanding to parked and washed, repaired and fueled. Instead, don a helmet and hop on a bike.
Steve Clark of the League of American Bicyclists is leading an important discussion today to discuss how Durham can improve its roads and greenways for safer biking. Clark, who is the league’s Bicycle Friendly Community Specialist, is visiting Durham because the city is on its priority list.
The presentation happens from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Durham City Hall (Mangum Street between Parrish and Chapel Hill streets). It is open to the public, and will be televised live on Durham Television Network (Time Warner Channel 8 and 97-5, and AT&T U-verse Channel 99.)
Clark will also provide a technical assessment of the city’s bicycling infrastructure, review how Durham encourages cycling and then offer a scorecard with priority items that need addressed.
The city’s bicycle and pedestrian committee has a list of maps, plans and other notices for cyclists. The committee meets Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the second floor committee room at City Hall.
