Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest has been sending generic letters to pastors and churches around the state in an attempt to get them to invite him for a “Q+A session” to “probe into my faith history, beliefs, and actions.”
This would be standard campaign fodder for a social conservative like Forest, who’s facing a tough rematch with Linda Coleman in November, except for one tiny detail: he’s using his official letterhead and office to do it—meaning taxpayers are arguably paying for what is, in spirit at least, a campaign document.
This copy of the letter, dated March 14, also directs anyone who’s interested to contact the lieutenant governor’s communications director for scheduling. We’ve contacted the lieutenant governor’s office for comment and will update with further information as it comes in.
