The State Highway Patrol has charged Thomas Lineberry, a 59-year-old Wilmington man, with multiple charges for hitting a state trooper with his golf cart on Saturday at the U.S. Open Championship in Pinehurst.
Lineberry was charged with felony assault on a law enforcement officer; felony hit and run; driving while impaired; and resist, obstruct and delay. He was released on a $3,000 bond, according to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.
The trooper Lineberry allegedly drove into, Ryan A. Goodin of the Statesville office, was treated at the State Highway Patrol medical trailer for a minor leg injury and released. Goodin was one of approximately 170 troopers assisting with security at the U.S. Open Championships.
Lineberry is due to appear in Moore County District Court on July 8.
