today’s

headlines:

1. Early voting starts today across the state. So go vote!
If you live in Durham County you can find polling locations and times for early voting here. If you’re in Wake County you can see where you can vote here. For early voting locations in Orange County, go here. If you’re not sure what county you’re registered in, you can look up your voter registration online.

Why should you vote early at the one-stop locations? Well, you don’t have to go to your designated polling place during the early voting time (but you would have to go to your polling place on November 8). You can choose the location that is most convenient for you. You’ll also be able to do same-day registration during the early voting period—you won’t be able to do so on Election Day.

However, voters taking advantage of same-day registration should plan to bring proof of residency with them. One-stop voting allows voters to register and vote at the same time. Proof of residency can be a North Carolina driver’s license, a photo identification from a government agency or a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or other government document.

2. Need another reason to go vote? There was another debate last night and it went just as we expected it to.

From the Washington Post:

Questioned directly as to whether he would accept the outcome should Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton prevail on Nov. 8, Trump demurred. “I will keep you in suspense,” the Republican nominee said. Clinton called Trump’s answer “horrifying,” saying he was “talking down our democracy.”

Trump also called Clinton a “nasty woman.” During the

debate

the candidates fought over Supreme Court decisions and women’s right to choose and of course, the Second Amendment. However, things got, well, graphic when Trump discussed abortion.

Clinton and Trump sparred intensively over abortion rights, with Trump acknowledging that if he gets two or three appointees to the Supreme Court, the landmark Roe v. Wade decision would be overturned “automatically.”

Trump went on to describe late-term abortion procedures in graphic language, suggesting that many women end their pregnancies in the final one to four days. “You can take the baby and rip the baby out of the womb,” he said.

But, at least we got this nugget out of CNN during its coverage.

Yes, we have gotten to the point in the election cycle where people are quoting LL Cool J to describe Trump antics.

3. Challengers to HB2 are asking a federal appeals court to broaden protections for transgender people before the trial starts in May.

From the News & Observer:

North Carolina residents and organizations challenging House Bill 2 asked a federal appeals court to schedule arguments in January on their request to block enforcement of the six-month-old law against all transgender people before their lawsuit goes to trial.

The court filing, submitted Wednesday to the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, seeks a broadening of an injunction entered earlier this year by U.S. District Judge Thomas Schroeder.

Schroeder, in late August, said three transgender residents who brought the lawsuit against the governor and legislative leaders had showed they were likely to succeed on their claims that HB2 violated Title IX, the federal law that prohibits sex discrimination in educational environments.

4. Tonight a portion of the Durham Freeway will be shifted to one-lane traffic, and then eventually closed for hours at a time.

From WTVD:

The DOT said the contractor needs to set up girders for a flyover bridge that will carry southbound traffic onto the new roadway being built to connect the Freeway with U.S. 70.

5. After recording-breaking temperatures yesterday (88 degrees at RDU), we could finally get some fall weather!

But, break out the pumpkin spice latte folks, fall is on its way!
