It’s a bit of a ride to the Denton FarmPark just off N.C. 49, but you have to drive pretty far these days to find the real rural side of North Carolina. On Oct. 27 and 28, Denton puts on Horse and Mule Days, at which you can feast your eyes on all kinds of drafting and crafting, harrowing, log-pulling, a cross-cut saw contest, a cider press, corn shucking and shelling and more. To treat your ears, stop by to hear the Nothin’ Fancy Bluegrass Band at the music hall at 2 and 4 p.m., or just listen to the ringing sound of the blacksmith’s hammer, or the gusty breaths of horses being saddled and cinched. Demonstrations run 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday; admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children 5-12. Call (336) 859-2755 for details.
