If North Carolina musicians could earn an honor comparable to poet laureate, Doc Watson would surely hold it. “Retired,” but still touring and recording, Doc has reflected the best our state has to offer through 40 years of taking his “traditional plus” music around the world. The Morehead School alumnus returns to Raleigh for a concert with grandson Richard Watson and Asheville’s David Holt in tow, with whom Doc recently recorded a multi-CD set called Legacy. The outdoor concert starts at 8 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 17, at the N.C. Museum of Art’s Joseph M. Bryan Theater. For details call 715-5923 or visit www.ticketmaster.com. –Art Menius
