So you know that Donald Trump character who is pretending to run for president—and who, in the process, is pissingoffanyoneandeveryonewho’s ever done business with him?
In case you haven’t been following along, here’s what The Donald said in his presidential-campaign announcement that got him in so much hot water:
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best. They’re not sending you, they’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems. They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime. They’re rapists and some, I assume, are good people, but I speak to border guards and they’re telling us what we’re getting.”
For some weird reason, people were offended by that.
And because he hadn’t sullied his reputation quite enough, Trump went ahead and retweeted some racist shit about Jeb Bush’s wife.
An unapologetic xenophobic loudmouth billionaire asshole—and, apparently, North Carolina Republicans’ top choice for president.
No, really.
Donald Trump is leading the Republican field in North Carolina, according to a poll released Wednesday. The billionaire businessman has the support of 16 percent of GOP primary voters in the Tar Heel State in the latest survey from left-leaning Public Policy Polling (PPP). The poll comes with Trump mired in controversy over his recent remarks on Hispanics and immigration from Mexico.
Sure, this is all name recognition, and sure, there’s no way on God’s green earth that Republicans will nominate this guy (what a spectacular 2016 that would be), but it’s nonetheless worth noting that in a week where companies and mainstream Republicans are tripping over themselves to get away from Trump, North Carolina’s peculiar breed of Republican has only grown to like him more.
Pour yourself a brandy and ponder that for a minute.
