Taste of Durham Festival
Brightleaf Square–If you’ve been longing to take a bite out of the local music, food and entertainment scenes, here’s your chance. The Taste of Durham Festival offers a slew of local artists, musicians and chefs to entertain, delight and satisfy. With demonstrations and samplings from local restaurants, your inner foodie can come out to play. The International Wine Tasting Pavilion and International Beer Tasting Garden provide opportunities to experience both local and international beverages. Or check out the Art is Alive exhibit, the ice sculpture-carving contest, or live musical performances from Hobex and The Countdown Quartet. And don’t worry: There’s plenty of entertainment for the kiddies, too. Activities go from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m, with tickets $4 in advance and $6 there. The Moaners, Bellafea
Local 506–Bellafea’s Heather McEntire boasts one of the most versatile (powerful, damaged, eerie, arresting, etc.) voices in the Triangle. It slips through her band’s softer numbers with the windy charm of Mary Timony or Chan Marshall, but elsewhere, it smashes her wiry guitar work and Nate Buchanan’s spacious drumming to smithereens with a she-roar Polly Jean’d be proud of. The Moaners’ Melissa Swingle sasses and howls out of a sunglassed poker face over Laura King’s rocked-out Delta stomping. Two of the Triangle’s finest duos converge at 10 p.m. –Robbie Mackey
