Mother Jones features a video of John McCain during a 2008 primary debate criticizing Rudy Giuliani’s shortcomings in foreign policy for being a “mayor for a short period time” and likewise, Mitt Romney for being a governor “for a short period of time.”
Yet months later, he chose Sarah Palin, whose tenure as Alaska guv is a shade under two years, and mayor of Wasilla (pop. 5,489 in 2000), six years. Not exactly a lifetime. But apparently, being Wasilla mayor outranks being the chief of NYC (pop. 8 million) and the top dog in Massachusetts, where Romney served as governor twice as long as Palin has in Alaska.
