If you thought Ryan Adams was bitter, you need to hear Jeff Klein. But you won’t get just fire Thursday, Dec. 16 at The Pour House. You’ll get four of the country’s best young Nashville bards together in one room for an in-the-round affair. Jason White made waves when he sent Tim McGraw to the charts with his abortion recollection, “Red Ragtop,” and Matthew Ryan draws a distracting amount of warranted comparisons to Dylan. David Mead is among Nashville’s finest, the cuddly type of romantic who seems to pen lyrics on postcards and who considers the most rewarding part of travel the long, reaffirming ride home. His Indiana–a warm, personalized record that’s less a self-edited love letter than a heart-on-the-sleeve diary excerpt–is the year’s best evidence that the art of the adult contemporary pop song is indeed extant.
