This Friday, June 7, the Carrboro ArtsCenter will host Writer’s Night, a bimonthly event sponsored by the N.C. Songwriters Co-op. This showcase will feature five local singer-songwriters, including former Bostonian Jason Harrod, a previous Co-op songwriting contest winner who snagged first place in the bluegrass division at the Chris Austin Songwriting Competition at Merlefest 2000. The bill also includes Tony Whetstone, a fourth-generation musician who plays the acoustic blues, Piedmont style, along with songstress Kyler England, Chris Wimberley (frontman for the band Stranger Spirits and an engineer and producer at Lloyd Street Studios) and singer-songwriter Jimmy Magoo. The show is Friday, June 7, 8 p.m. at the Carrboro ArtsCenter. Call 927-2787 for details. –Angie Carlson
