Another two employees at Alexander Correctional Institution have been fired in connection with the March death of a mentally ill inmate.

According to Pam Walker, the communications director for the N.C. Department of Public Safety, the two psychological services employees are among seven total workers who have been dismissed since Michael Kerr died while being transported from the Taylorsville institution to Central Prison in Raleigh.

An additional two prison workers resigned.

The employees, psychological services coordinator Michael Youron and psychological program manager Karis Fitch, are both appealing their dismissals.

Walker said that another twenty prison workers “have received written warnings or coachings,” and that no criminal charges have been filed.

Kerr, 54, was being transported to Central Prison to receive mental and health care. He was found dead on arrival.

DPS has not yet received an autopsy report.
