Been putting off a New Year’s resolution to expand your horizons, have more fun, maybe take a dance class? This weekend is a golden opportunity to take your first steps in a new direction, as Tangophilia hosts two world-renowned visiting instructors in the Argentine tango. Carolina Zokalski and Diego di Falco became the youngest tango dancers in American musical theater history when they joined the original Broadway cast of “Forever Tango” at age 20. Di Falco struck the dramatic pose for the show’s billboard in Times Square, and the couple was nominated for a Tony in “Best Choreography.” Since then, they have appeared in the video production of “Forever Tango” and have performed throughout North America, Europe and Japan, and they recently starred in the PBS special “Tango Magic.”
Triangle Dance Studios will be the site for Di Falco and Zokalski’s local workshops on Thursday, Jan. 22 and Friday, Jan. 23 teaching everything–from the most basic fundamentals of social dancing (like how to invite a partner to dance), to musicality, form, and the all-important tango “walk.” Saturday, Jan. 24 and Sunday, Jan. 25 build up to combinations, ganchos (tango’s sexy leg kicks) and more for the intermediate dancer. Advance registration discounts and package rates available via Tangophilia’s website.
If you just like to watch, Zokalski and Di Falco will perform Saturday night at Cafe Parizhade. $25 gets you dinner included in the deal, $15 gets you in to the milonga (social dance) and performance only. Call 423-7681 or visit www.tangophilia.com for information and reservations.
