Yesterday, the INDY requested the salaries of the City of Raleigh’s highest paid employees.

Here they are:

1. Tom McCormick, city attorney: $259,000

2. Ruffin Hall, city manager: $231,426

3. James Green, Jr., assistant city manager: $180,285

4. Marchell Adams David, assistant city manager: $167,500

5. Perry James III, chief financial officer: $164,625

6. Tansy Hayward, assistant city manager: $161,600

7. Cassandra Deck-Brown, police chief: $160,000

8. D. Darnell Smith, chief information officer: $157,500

9. John T. McGrath, transportation field services manager: $156,786

10. Diane Sauer, parks, recreation and cultural resources director: $149,767

11. Robert Massengill, public utilities director: $147,335

12. Thomas Hosey, development services director: $146,000

13. Stephen Jones, human resources director: $135,915

14. Kenneth Bowers, planning director: $134,336

15. Gail Smith, city clerk: $133,750

16. Ira Botvinick, city attorney: $129,864

17. Hunt Choi, city attorney: $129,864

18. Dorothy Leapley, city attorney: $129,864

19. Daniel McLawhorn, city attorney: $125,748

20. Michael Basham, chief technology officer: $123,680

A total of 86 city employees make $100,000 or more a year.

Additionally, it appears that several city employees have gotten some pretty big raises, along with a few changes in titles, since the Raleigh Public Record published city employees’ salaries back in August of last year.

The City of Raleigh employs 3,809 people, according to the record, and employees make a combined total of $198,052,429. The average salary for a city employee is therefore $51,996 a year.

The record indicates that 236 city of Raleigh employees make $30,000 a year or less.

Other public records show that 16 city of Raleigh employees making more than $100,000 a year have either retired or taken positions elsewhere since November, 2013.
